Rodents of Unusual Size hits Kickstarter. Help Righteous Fur support it!

“An offbeat environmental documentary about gigantic rodents gnawing on the edge of the world.” Yeah you right. “Rodents of Unusual Size” is gonna rock! The “Rodents” team came to Louisiana late last year and shot some amazing footage down the bayou, plus some scenes in New Orleans with your truly and Righteous Fur. My famous nutria teeth jewelry is among the cool rewards being offered to those who pledge. Please go to Kickstarter and help support it!

Now in stores! Marsh Dog nutria treats keep ‘em begging

July 1st, 2012

Marsh Dog, my fellow BTNEP minigrant recipients, have taken Louisiana’s canine population by storm. Pet stores and specialty shops throughout New Orleans and Baton Rouge now carry their all-natural nutria treats. Click here to see where you can buy them.

Marsh Dog cofounder Veni Harlan was kind enough to send me a free sample, so I put Marsh Dog to the test. Though I don’t have dogs myself (just way too many cats), my friend Bix volunteered her little mutt Pia as a guinea pig, er, dog.

Bix was a little leery about what Pia’s reaction would be, as she’s a very picky eater who usually turns her nose up at treats. (Believe it or not, some dogs can be as picky as cats). But Bix needn’t have worried. Pia gobbled her first Marsh Dog biscuit down and kept coming back for more….and more….and more. If Marsh Dog sold Pia on first bite, the sky’s the limit for nutria’s canine appeal!

Marsh Dog!: Nutria dog biscuits hit the market

April 1st, 2012

When I first met Veni and Hansel Harlan late last August, my fellow BTNEP minigrant recipients were still perfecting their secret recipe for all-natural dog biscuits made from dehydrated nutria meat. (See “Marsh Dogs and gators and teeth, oh my!“) Six months later, the treats are ready to hit the market. Read all about it at the Marsh Dog website, which just went live and looks terrific!

Barataria Bites, the first Marsh Dog biscuits, make their debut at the Louisiana Earth Day Festival in Baton Rouge on April 22, and will soon be available at a store near you. To get free samples, and enroll your dog as an official taste tester, visit Marsh Dog’s Club de Goût (goût is French for “tasty”).

The same week that Marsh Dog launched, Pitre’s Fur & Alligator also went live. Designed by Josh Pitts of Sideways Designs, who created the Righteous Fur website, the site is owned and operated by Tab and Yvette Pitre, our nutria pelt suppliers in Galliano, Louisiana. You can now order nutria pelts directly from Pitre’s Fur online, along with nutria and gator jewelry and gator heads straight from the swamp. Be the first on your block to own a Alligator Head Lamp!
